Currently on day 6 of decaffeinating myself. Not cutting caffeine out completely, but cutting back considerably. Why? I'm just tired (literally) of being a slave to caffeine and my body needs a reboot. I'm getting older and changes are happening people.
My normal routine prior to cutting back:
7am//1 cup of drip coffee
10am//a 4 shot 16ou latte
----some kind of chocolate-----
3pm//a Red Bull italian soda (Red Bull + flavored syrup, preferably peach)
------more chocolate--------
Once in awhile, there'd be another coffee thrown in the mix AND an Excedrin for a migraine. Crazy to some, normal for others, especially in this day in age. So many of us are slaves to our caffeine fix and it's just so damn easy to get it.
I'm just done. So I decided to stop. I would only allow myself 1 cup…about 8 ounces of Peet's drip coffee. That's it.
The next 3 days that followed were pure HELL. I did not take the withdrawal serious enough. Had I known, I would have done this a little more slowly like cut the Red Bull one week, then my latte. After the 3rd day, I started to research withdrawals and there it was….all the symptoms I was going through. Migraines, irritability, tiredness, depression….yes, depression! I had it all and unfortunately my son and husband bared the brunt of it all. Those guys. I swear I don't know how they still love me after those 3 very hard days.
Day 4. SO MUCH BETTER and now on day 6 I feel really really good. I'm more focused and determined and maybe that's just all mental, who knows. But I feel good about my accomplishment in making it this far without falling. I do indulge in a decaf coffee, a hot chocolate or some m&m's in the afternoon but still, it's nothing like I was taking before.
Next up, sugar. Not sure I'm quite ready for that just yet.
