Our weekends usually fall on Mondays + Tuesdays due to my husbands work schedule so we headed out of town late Sunday night to one of our favorite camping spots, Eklutna Lake. It's not too far out of Anchorage which is nice. The weather has been so beautiful + really hot (for Alaska) which makes being near a lake ideal. It's one of those spots that does get busy but not to the point where it's not enjoyable. Again, ideal for us.
There's something about being surrounded by mountains that I find so comforting along with the sounds of chirping birds, water rushing down a stream and the crackle of the campfire….it's all so soothing and much needed in this day in age. There is absolutely no cell phone reception or wifi which may scare some, even me at first but I'm telling you, being away from social networking, the ding of emails and texts and phone calls. It's really good. So good. I almost dread coming back into town.
This time around, I was able to pick several varieties of wild flowers that were growing around our camp. I tried to tuck them into my travel notebook but some of them slipped out and were crushed in my backpack (sad face). My normal method for flower drying is to tuck them into my Details mini but I wanted to try my Studio Calico notebook this time around. Not much luck with keeping dimensional items. I ended up taking some flowers back home and dried some of them between wax paper and weighing them down under a stack of books. I'll fit them into my Summer Travel mini once they're ready.
After a few eventful days out of town (eventful as in a black bear running through our camp and scaring the shit out of us) it was back to the daily grind of emails and design work. Grateful for those few day of peace but more so, the great memories we now share together as a family.
Happy Weekend,
Tina
